The electricity cost here in the Philippines becomes higher every year. And people are complaining about that. But let us be honest that no matter how high the electricity becomes we cannot remove the fact that electricity becomes part of our day-to-day life because it is considered our basic need.Â
Most of our activity depends on it from charging our mobile phones to powering our appliances there is no doubt that we need electricity.Â
Urban areas are more fortunate when it comes to access to electricity but some far-reaching areas in the Philippines especially those in the mountainous areas and remote islands have still no access to electric power. For this reason it is impossible to supply electricity due to problems in terrain or location problem.Â
Electric fans can be seen in almost all households in the Philippines. They are widely used during the summertime because this appliance brings comfort during hot weather. Although electric fan uses lesser electricity compared to air-conditioning. As a matter of fact, it is seven (7) times much cheaper than air-conditioning. Did you know that there are still energy-saving tips for the electric fans you might not know yet.
Even though it has lesser power consumption there are still a few things you can do to reduce your monthly electricity bill. Here at Shoppiverse PH, we want to share a few simple tips to save on energy while using your electric fan.
1. Reduce the fan speed accordinglyÂ
Keep this in mind the higher the speed of the fan blade the greater the electricity consumption of the electric fan. The higher the speed of the rotation of your electric fan means it needs to draw more power. There are certain times that we don't need to put the electric fan at high speed. Especially if the weather is not too hot the best way to reduce electricity consumption is to select the lowest number that you can choose on its button. Another way to maximize your usage and the wind from it even at the lower speed is to place it nearer to you.
2. Clean your electric fan regularly.
This is the most common neglected maintenance that we should do in our electric fan. As time goes by the grills and blades become dusty thereby it reduces the air coming out of the fan. The dust accumulated also affects the motor of the electric fan that leading to the slowing of the blade rotation even though the number is set to the highest. This is due to the dirt and sometimes hair that tangles and wrap around the electric fan shaft.
To access the fan shaft first the fan grills must be removed first and then remove the fan blade. By removing it you can see if hair and other dirt are tangled in it that cause the problem. You can open the electric fan by using simple hand tools such as screwdrivers and pliers that you can easily find inside your homes.Â
3. Unplug the electric fan if not in use.
Phantom energy load is caused by devices that are plugged in your socket that still consume electricity load. Even if you're not using your electric fan and it is still plugged in the socket it still consumes a little amount of energy that can still add to your electricity bill. Did you know that unplugging an unused electric fan will save you 10% of your electricity bill according to the Department of Energy in the United States? In order to avoid unnecessary consumption, it is much better to unplug your electrical and any appliance that is not in use.
Aside from saving electricity, you can also reduce the risk of fire caused by electrical problems. During the month of March in the Philippines, we celebrate it as fire prevention month because based on statistics most fire incidents happen during this period. Â
